I have just received a report from an observer from Port Hope, Ontario (on the north shore of Lake Ontario east of Toronto) who was visiting Manitoulin Island over the past few days - about a 7 hour drive north from Toronto - and this gentleman observed many monarchs nectaring on flowering plants. More late monarchs than usual:
I know here in Cobourg, the goldenrod is silvery colored and is finished flowering. New England Asters and dandelions and cultivated flowers remain. Rod and Joan Parrott report this morning quite a few monarchs nectaring on the wet grass and remaining flowering plants west of here at Port Hope. They too are of the opinion that this is a late migration as the monarchs arrived in Ontario later than usual.
