Today, 10-13-11, there are only about 10-15 Monarchs in my backyard butterfly garden. There are probably a couple of dozen eggs and five sighted caterpillars. They started coming in numbers around 10-2, with about 25 then around 10-5,6,7,8, there were as many as 125, or more, around the blue mist flower, the milkweed and roosting in the oak tree and youpon holly trees. It was an amazing sight. Then on the 10th came the rain and cooler weather and they have dwindled to around a dozen. It makes the effort to keep the milkweed going in the dry weather totally worth it.
