Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/13/2011

Number: 1

In a 1/2-mile-@-way walk along our Chippewa River trail I observed 19 Monarchs nectaring happily on blooming purple asters.

For the past 10-14 days we've enjoyed a return of sunny, 80 degree day temps in NW WI. With this has come an appearance of 'late bloomers'- mostly Monarchs and some Sulfur, Mourning cloaks and Fritillaries. These Monarchs appeared healthy, brightly colored wings, larger than earlier generations and active. Wish I'd learned how to capture and tag....maybe next year.
