Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/15/2011

Number: 200

I live on a gentleman's pecan orchard and wherever you walk there are Monarchs either flying or resting on tree branches. The first observations began on 10/13/2011.

October 17
They are still here. I truly believe there may be groups passing through each day. I do not know that for certain. I have a six acre pecan orchard and they seem to be throughout the 140 trees. Today is another good day. I can not begin to count how many are passing through.
Question: my grandson asked me where do Monarch butterflies 'sleep' at night? I do not see them 'hanging' on tree limbs at dusk . . .

October 18
We have maintained our garden throughout the drought.
We have many wildflowers in bloom, etc. I maintain two hummingbird feeders and have seen a couple butterflies sipping from the feeder! I maintain two birdbaths for my birds and I am certain that the butterflies take advantage.

Today there is a cold front passing through Texas so I expect a decrease. I have seen some this morning, however, I will give you a better report as the day progresses.
