Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/17/2011

Number: 50

15:30, brisk south wind, gust in 20's, 87F. // This report date is four days later than in any previous year for sighting large numbers of monarchs. // Similar situation to yesterday. Widely spread rather than grouped together. Less than 50% on liatris. Most were sheltering, but alert, in groves or simply perched on north side (shaded, downwind side) of individual junipers. There were probably just as many as yesterday actually here, considering strong south wind, but harder to spot. Most seen only if they flushed on approach.
