Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/16/2011

Number: 1000

This observation was made by Paul Shukis, on October 16th, 2011 at about 3:00 p.m. The location was the Devils River State Natural Area at the mouth of Dolan Creek below Dolan Falls. A very large area of trees were covered with Monarchs who seemed to be preparing for roost. The Monarchs were along an area up to 100' long and appeared to be "boiling up from the water into the trees".
The numbers were huge and only could be estimated. Paul and his friends observed for about 20 min.
