Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/18/2011

Number: 1

Continue to have daily visits of 1-3 monarchs nectoring on milkweed and resting before moving south. Unusual caterpillar behavior is puzzling me and any explanation from readers would be appreciated: (1) In past years chysalis' have been formed on things other than the feeding plants but his year they're all on the milkweed plants. Why? (2) Several caterpillars have been observed writhing, as if in pain, underneath the milkweed plants. After about a minute each one hs recovered a returned to the plant. Why?
