Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/17/2011

Number: 1

This may be an unusual roosting - it involved only one monarch who perched on pebbles/rocks in front of my house. I live in Jersey where "desert landscaping" is used. The monarch stayed overnight -- the area does get the rising sun. However, it was a cloudy morning so the butterfly stayed. It kept changing its position but not flying. I nudged it with a leaf - it flew a short distance and landed again. This time I placed a butterfly bush flower near it -- hoping it would get some nectar. By 2:00 the butterfly had flown away - thankfully.
