Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/15/2011

Number: 1

5 Monarch butterflies were nectaring on my white flowered butterfly bushes for most of the late morning and afternoon on Saturday, October 15. 4 males and 1 female.

On Sunday, 4 were still nectaring- 3 males, 1 female. Both days were warm and sunny after multiple days of rain.

On Monday morning, October 17, 2 males were still hanging around the butterfly bushes.

Tuesday October 18, 1 male remained. This may be the last one passing through.

For the record, here in central PA, out of the 100 plus we raised from eggs, and the 50 plus seen passing through, I have seen far more males this year than females. Something like 10-12 males for each female seen. And despite the presence of every possible native and seasonal nectar plant known to appeal to Monarchs growing in my gardens, they prefer by far the white flowered butterfly bushes.
