Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/23/2011

Number: 4

While walking in Zilker Botanical Gardens, my son and I sighted 4 Monarchs nectaring on Texas Lantana and Turks Cap from 4:35 to 4:55 PM. Temperature was about 82 degrees, wind from the West at about 4 mph, partly cloudy. When the sun was out two of the butterflies followed each other up and over the flowers between the bushes and trees and back. They were so easy to follow in flight as their orange wings easily caught the rays of the sun, despite the overhanging branches and foliage. Several other species interacted with the monarchs, (a monarch appearing to chase the other.)
