Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/23/2011

Number: 100

October 26
I went down to Lighthouse Field today (it is about 100 yards from the ocean), and saw a bunch of beauties. I will attach a few photos of them, but I also video taped them for a couple minutes so you could see a few of the clusters in the trees. I've put the video on youtube so that you can see it. Its title is, "Monarchs 10-26-11." I was standing in one spot and filming part of one of the eucalyptus trees. The area is only about 1 acre, but provides a home for a bunch of monarchs. Two miles south of this spot is Natural Bridges State Park. I'm told that there are about 100,000 monarchs there. Pretty cool!

October 23
We have observed many monarchs flying over our schoolyard. Some of them are going north and then turn around to fly south towards Natural Bridges State Park. As of this evening, there are 100s of monarchs fluttering around the eucalyptus trees of Lighthouse Field in Santa Cruz.
