Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/21/2011

Number: 25

Yesterday 10/21 I tagged a total of 25 from 1330-1630 hours, saw maybe another 20, things definitely starting to wind down, I had to work for every one. Still my only recaptures have been my own, some the next day miles away.

There was a mating pair of Monarchs that flew about 30 feet up to a pine tree remaining for about 20 minutes. One of the pair was tagged, I couldn't tell from photos but it was likely one I had just tagged.

Nectar use has switched to about 90% aster, and 3% each Baccharus, goldenrod and Bidens. This has ben a late migration for my area (or maybe since I bought extra tags I'm still out) but I don't recall them switching over to such a high use of Aster.
