Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/21/2011

Number: 3

Was at work at Lone Star Executive Airport this afternoon when I sighted at intervals of about 5 minutes apart, 3 different Monarchs headed in a westerly direction. First was about 2PM in the afternoon and the last one was about 2:15PM. All were very leisurely flying in west, southwesterly direction.

Unfortunately, the day before, I had found part of a Monarch's forewing laying in the grass beside our pavilion.

We have severallarge milkweed plants at home, but, so far haven't had any visitors as best as we can tell. It's been so dry and hot all the shrubbery is doing poorly, though we have a sprinkler system that waters regularly. The milkweed may not look healthy enough for an egg layer to deposit her eggs on.

We keep trying though. We'd love to incubate, feed and release some more for their journey south!
