We held our 2nd annual butterfly festival on Oct 22, 2011 hoping to be on time for the the migration. We netted 24 wild butterflies, 12 female/12 males and released them after they were tagged. Some had damaged wings but most were in good shape. Hopefully they would continue their journey south but for the afternoon they seemed happy enough to stay in our demo gardens sampling the milkweed.

We were also raising about 60 caterpillars to release but a number (to be determined) of them had succumbed to the tachinid fly in J and pupae stages. We are watching the remaining pupae and will report the number of survivors.
