Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/25/2011

Number: 25

Seeing quite a few monarchs flying and nectaring on the false garlic wildflowers, which have sprung up in abundance. Today was a partly cloudy, very warm day 85 degrees F. These are bright beautiful monarchs that seem very thirsty, spending a lot of time going from tiny flower to tiny flower. The false garlic are the same flowers that the spring egg-laying monarchs nectar from, but I am amazed by the abundance this fall ~ very unusual and seemingly because of the recent rains after a terrible summer drought. We also have never had this many fall monarchs, especially seeing hundreds in the woods this last weekend.
