Here in central Indiana we enjoyed a gorgeous fall day with an equally gorgeous, apparently healthy monarch nectaring in my yard this afternoon. Attempted to catch it bare handed to check abdomen, but as I approached it soared up and over the house, well out of reach. Oddly, he found much in my yard for feasting, thanks to recent rains and a warm spell. Even my coneflowers are blooming again. Storms and cooler weather are arriving tonight, however. Those blooms may be frozen in a few days.
