Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/26/2011

Number: 8

While working outside the past 2 days, I was very surprised to see several monarchs stopping to nectar on the few flowers still blooming in the garden. This late in the season, there are still zinnias and gailardia. After tomorrow night's probable freeze, there won't be much left. The monarchs I saw had vibrant color and their wings showed no sign of distress. They were beautiful. Why are they so late?
