Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/21/2011

Number: 1

It was late morning and we noticed what I am guessing is a young just hatched monarch on our back lawn - it was with in 3 feet of our milkweed. Think it was drying its wings, then took off to a high bush and stayed there for quite awhile. Later it was gone. We had a few caterpillars’ earlier this year but thought they had all got eaten or died. Never could find a place where they went or a chrysalis. This might have just been someplace we missed. Seemed like quite a while since we had the caterpillars’ on the plants – longer than it would take to hatch. This is one of the first times in years that we have had caterpillars, although we have two kinds of milkweed for many years in our yard.
