I saw one Monarch feeding on a Zinnia at the Rankin County Mississippi State Extention Service office in Brandon MS on Marquette Road about 9:30 am. The Monarch was in good shape, wings intact, legs connected, probiscus used and it had a good tolerance for me to photograph it with my camera about 8-inches from it, it continued feeding and occasionall flexed its wings then flew to another nearby flower. It was likely more hungry than afraid. It seemed to be a bit sluggish even though the air temperture was moderate of about 65 - 70 degrees F. There were other fresher flowers nearby but it chose the Zinnias that were past prime but must have had some nutrition the insect needed. It was still feeding when I moved away.
