While playing golf in Cortland, NY. When pulling the pin on the 11th hole a monarch was seen down in the cup. It was picked out of the hole and it flew about 20' away, landing just off the green. It was vibrantly "fresh" and after landing spread its wings on the grass. It was sunny and in the mid 50's. After putting out on the green I approached it and it rose up and flew off, apparently none the worse for its "confinement".
