In the front yard of my home garden, Monarch Waystation #271, I found a fifth instar monarch larva on a purple milkweed stem!! This is the latest I've seen a monarch caterpillar. The front yard faces north, so I moved the caterpillar to some potted tropical milkweed sitting on my south-facing patio, which gets more sun and so is warmer. No hard frosts in the area yet, though we had a few nights where the car windows on the north side of the house did have light frost. Crossing my fingers for this caterpillar to make it.
