Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 11/19/2011

Number: 12

We had our first really hard frost last night and several freezers began to seize up (which got me by surprise). But I had them back in sipping order and hummers began to flock into the garden (the neighbors must be neglecting their feeders). Anyway, they were buzzing about so busily between the feeders, the blooming winter viburnum, and the neighbors' Douglas firs [yes, Douglas firs], they were hard to count. They seemed quite unperturbed even when he day did not warm up (our high barely reached the high thirties). Tonight, the temperature has already dropped to thirty, but I'm prepared. I've set up a battery of feeders, filled and ready to go outside at the break of dawn, to replace any frozen ones.
