Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 11/30/2011

Number: 1

Since my last report, I have still been seeing monarchs almost everyday in my yard. usualy one or two, sometimes 3 at a time and not all day long. There are lots of monarch caterpillars still. The days are often sunny but the nights now are often getting as low as 34 degrees. My butterfly weed still looks mostly good and much of it still blooming. Some of the leaves are wilted from the nights cold but most of the plants still look healthy. I mentioned in my last report that I have 100 plus butterfly weed seedlings in my backyard which i have stopped mowing to allow them to grow. There are monarch caterpillars on these 2-5 inch seedlings. They seem to like the new leaves.I still also have my 30 plus mature flowering butterfly weed plants which also have many monarch caterpillars on them. While walking several blocks from my house today i saw 3 different monarch butterflies during my 30 minute walk. There were blooming bottle brush trees near where I saw the monarchs on my walk today.
