Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 12/04/2011

Number: 1

Had taken down all feeders except one window feeder and Larry spotted a hummer feeding on Sunday, Dec. 4. I hurriedly made fresh nectar and it fed off and on all day. Saw it again on Monday morning and didn't see it anymore till today, Sat. Dec. 10, although it probably fed during the week. Made fresh nectar again and it came to the feeder several times today. Would also sit in the butterfly bush in front of the feeder. We think it is a Rufous or Calliope, not one of our ruby-throats. We are excited to see a hummer at this time of year but also worried about how it survives in the cold.
