In a field next to where I work, I observed a pair of what appears to be a pair of whooping cranes. They have been seen for 3 days at the least, feeding in an open field where a large amount of soybeans and corn were recently harvested, leaving what is apparently a large enough amount of food to keep them busily grazing for days. The fields are next to a river, and very close to a small town square. My concern was that they seem so tame, and after speaking to several people, and seeing their banded legs, so I was unsure of the rarity of these birds, but am also aware that there are a large amount of hunters in the area, and it is hunting season here. Thank you for your attention.
