Tulips EMERGED

Date: 01/23/2012

Number: 1

After coming back from a week of snow and ice storms...school was out for four days, we took temperatures of the soil in our tulip beds. The soil was colder than the air which puzzled us. We asked, why after all our snow, ice and cold weather was the soil colder not warmer as we expected? No one was convinced of a true solution, but we did think that maybe because the raised bed had been covered with ice for about a week that that might make a difference. When we looked super close, we saw just a few of the tips of red emerging from the soil. We think the tulips have just taken a look. We then questioned whether the tulips would pause in their growth and wait for a more springtime moment or keep growing? We will check again next week.
