Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 01/24/2012

Number: 1

A flock of 10-15 robins arrived at lunchtime and began yanking worms out of our lawn. We have an acre at the intersection of forest and pastureland. All had red breasts of varying degrees of brightness. The heads of some were darker than others. A flock of about a hundred starlings came in and the robins retreated to the norway maple until the starlings moved off to the neighbors horse pasture. A few pigeons down there fly and land with the starlings. Reflex to flock? The winter has been unseasonably dry (December) and fairly mild until this January. We had waves of snow at temperatures between 27F and 34. The thawing snow and sunshine all day long yesterday has greened the grass. Yesterday the temps moved up to upper 30's and lower 40s.
