Ms. O'Neill's third grade class, 3A, planted 23 tulips today. It was a sunny 62 degree winter day here in Charleston (with a low of 35 degrees). We measured, made holes seven inches deep, four inches apart, added some bonemeal, then planted our bulbs and marked them with popsicle sticks. We watered them and covered them with chicken wire so that the squirrels wouldn't eat them. We also planted 5 experimental bulbs, one had a chunk taken out of it, another was skinless, some were too deep or too shallow, had too much or not enough bonemeal. We are looking forward to seeing what happens. This has been a fun experiment so far.
