Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 01/27/2012

Number: 1

Robins appear to be overwintering here in Ottawa now, I observed SIX of them at once in the mountain ash tree in my backyard, there were only a handful of dried berries left on the tree that they were taking, also they are eating what's left on the crabapple next door. I am putting out dried cranberries in a suet feeder and hope they will take them, I cannot imagine there is enough for them to eat around here to last all winter. I'm sure 10 years ago one never saw a robin in the dead of winter here, but now it is becoming more common as our winters seem to be getting milder and shorter. They seem healthy enough, but still it must be hard for them, this is Ottawa after all, the windchill can hit in the minus 20s at times...
