This winter has been different from previous Journey North observation years; it has been warmer than usual. We also have not had any snow yet this year, but it has rained a lot. Today we are expecting a high of 68 degrees F and a low tonight of 38 degrees F.
Today we checked on our tulips because we saw that others on the map had tulips that had emerged. We were curious to see if ours had emerged too. We found 5 tulips have emerged! The tallest was 4 cm and the smallest was just barely poking out of the ground.
We also have tulips from previous Journey North years planted near this years tulips. Many of those tulips have emerged and last years tulips are taller than our tallest new Journey North tulips. We found it interesting that our tulips have emerged at different times. One year the earliest was January 15 and others were in February. So it seems that this years tulips are right on time with our previous years emerging tulips! We thought they would be earlier with the warmer weather.
