Sighted 2 flocks of cranes over Goliad State Park. The first flock had around 60 cranes, the second about 30. We were watching vultures riding the thermals then from the North a flock of cranes flew in and mixed with the Vultures. The vultures left and only the cranes remained riding the thermals. They rode for several minutes then flew off towards the south. We then saw 3 more come in, thinking they were stragglers, but behind them flew in the second flock and they began riding the same thermal for several minutes before they continued on. The park host first thought they were Sandhill cranes, but after a call to the Coast, they told him they were probably the Whooping cranes because they were expected in that day! Too Cool!! We were told that this is a rare site. Too bad I didn't have my camera but we got a great look through the binoculars and a great story.
