It was exciting and somewhat frantic! As I was watching songbirds at the bird feeders from inside the house I saw the rushed flutter of grayish brown wings arrive from the southeast. They headed straight for the birdbath. I thought it was just one but then there were two and another waiting in a nearby shrub. All females. The third squeezed in beside the others at the edge of the others and started a brief row. Then I noticed three more in the shrub. They seemed thirsty and, as usual, uninterested in the bird feeders. They arrived in the afternoon and stayed close to the birdbath, drinking and resting, for the rest of the day.
