Tulips EMERGED

Date: 02/09/2012

Number: 1

Ms. O'Neill's third grade class 3A observed that 19 out of 23 tulips have emerged! 2 out of 5 experimental tulips have also emerged. The shortest one is about 1 cm and the tallest is 6 cms. Students described them as smooth, waxy, hard, thick, feels like a crayon and is fuzzy on top. The colors vary from light green to purple and red on the edges. The smallest ones look like little tiny bananas! Students noticed a vase-like structure that collects water. They observed the outside layers to be leaves and felt different to the inside that students believed held the stem and bud. The two experiemental bulbs were planted too shallow and a chunk taken out of one of them. We were excited to find that they had emerged! I hope they all will eventually emerge.
