Tulips EMERGED

Date: 02/29/2012

Number: 1

When we did our observation, it was cold (about 32 degrees), breezy and snowing. Some of the shoots were bright yellow; others were green. We saw one that had green at the tops of the leaves, and some leaves that had some white on them. Some were about 3 inches tall; others were closer to 5 or 6 inches (the yellow ones that had been covered were the tallest). One plant was even poking a hole through its cover! We observed 5 emerged tulips (but there might be more, because we kept most of them covered). There were a lot of worms in the soil; the soil temperature was about 40 degrees.
