Robin (First SEEN)

Date: 03/02/2012

Number: 1

I usually feed robins bread and water soaked raisins when they first arrive in our area. Last year I saw the first robins along the Des Plaines river, which they apparently use for open water,as they return north. My first sighting last year was March 5.
This year has had unusually warm weather. I put out water-soaked raisins and yesterday, March 2 observed a large male from last year feeding on the raisins and vocalizing. I also have a heated dog dish that he drank from..ice free water being very important.
I have also seen robins here in winter, in the city itself, feeding on hawthorn berries right in the median of a busy street.
