First thought to be a Rufous Hummingbird over-wintering in Cape May, NJ, this bird recently molted and the tail feathers show it to be the first Broad-Tailed Hummingbird ever seen in NJ! I viewed it yesterday for a half hour, first feeding from a nectar feeder and then preening in a hydrangea bush at the private residence where it has spent our mild NJ winter.
