I did not see an adult monarch; however, we collected eight first instar monarch caterpillars, two second instar monarch caterpillers, and two monarch eggs on our young milkweed plants. My guess is that a female must have deposited eggs on the plants three to five days before the day we found the caterpillers and eggs (Friday, March 2nd). This means the eggs were probably deposited during the last few days of February, much earlier than normal. We've collected first and second instars every day since that Friday--but we still haven't seen an adult.
