Ice-Out

Date: 01/01/2012

Number: 1

Webster Lake
located near Webster, Massachusetts

" We did have a thin coating of ice over the entire lake for maybe two days in late Jan.. The high winds caused the ice to break up over the large open areas of the lake.

Some of the smaller coves kept some of the ice covering for a week. There would be a thaw and the coves would open up. The ice was never safe for us to place Einstein out in the cove. The ice could not support the persons that needed to place him out onto the cove.

There was not ice fishing this year.

We have been in the North Pond area of the lake since 1951. This is the first year the lake remained open.

Our Bald Eagles stayed all winter."

Thanks to the Webster Lake Association and Gloria Ricker for this report!

ed. note: The Webster Lake Association annually hosts their ice-out contest where they place a fun looking figure named "Einstein" on the ice, and on the day Einstein falls through the ice then "Ice Out" is declared on Webster Lake.
