Last week,on Thursday, I happened to spot a PERFECT PAIR of Red Polls in my backyard. I saw the female first, and I knew it did not look quite like either a Finch or a Sparrow--then the SPECTACULARLY COLORED MALE appeared beside her. WOW! That was one of the most beautiful specimens of that species I have yet to see. Sad to say, they did not remain in my yard--must have stopped only for the water in the heated birdbaths and a few stray "wintered" berries on trees/bushes in the neighborhood.
Normally, I don't get Martins and Swallows until April, but I'm wondering if they might be coming much earlier this year...
