Students observed tulip bulbs and recorded circumference, weight, color, shape (drawing), characteristics of the surface area. Class averages were figured for each of three classes for the weights of the bulbs. Data was shared in the three classes. All previously mentioned work was done in science class; following that, the math teachers took the students outside and planted the tulip bulbs, having each student use a specific location on a coordinate grid within the school garden area.
