Our school butterfly gardens are covered in monarch caterpillars. Since we had monarchs all winter, we don't know if these caterpillars are from the spring migration or from over-winter butterflies. They have eaten all the milkweed leaves in one garden, and we had to "transplant" them to another garden that still had milkweed.
