A single Monarch was spotted at the Wildcat Bluff Nature Center headquarters located NW of Amarillo, TX. It was not tagged. It was feeding on apple blossoms. Severe drought conditions in our area has greatly affected new plant growth this spring. The only native plants blooming at this time are Bladderpods growing only two to three inches tall and widely dispersed. Very few milkweeds have been spotted and are approximately 1 inch in height. Climate conditions a the time includes temp 78F, time 6:37pm, SW winds 20-30 gusting to 40, skies partly overcast and dusty.
