Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 03/11/2012

Number: 1

We heard them first as Sandhill Cranes circled to get lift over eastern side Loma Alta.
For 6 days we spotted the cranes heading north, 1st group had estimated 200 in 5 separate flocks trying to merge. Around 20 to 50 on the other passing days. This is the largest sighting we've ever seen heading north, we mostly see them south bound around Oct/Nov. Even more unusual, we heard south bound cranes at night Dec 29th just before New Years.
First we hear the calls, then we spot the V formations circling, These nature sightings are such a pleasure and treasure to witness it brings tears to my eyes every season.
