Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/22/2012

Number: 1

I had a chance today to check out the milkweed plants in our pasture. It is a beautiful sunny, breezy day starting out at about 70 degrees F and going up to about 85 degrees F. These are my results from about a half acre with spread out milkweed plants: 37 eggs, most with one egg per plant. 30 first instars, most being born today it seemed (one I witnessed), but some a bit larger and 4 were at 5mm length. This was a general survey, not comprehensive. During my outdoors activity looking for eggs and larva I also saw 7 monarchs flying low over the pasture at different times. Truly delighted to see the monarchs and their offspring!
