The March 19 ice out date beats a March 22 ice out recorded in 1987.
Green Lake is the deepest body of water in Kandiyohi County, and consequently the last to be free of ice.
Last year the ice on the lake went out April 21, according to Greg Melges of Mel's Sports Shop in Spicer. The median ice out on the lake is April 16, according to records kept by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
The latest ice out date was May 7, 1951.
The DNR has kept ice out records on the lake since 1897."
