Six Red Emperor tulip bulbs were planted inside a small greenhouse, and six tulips were planted just outside the greenhouse. This will serve as a demonstration for extending the garden season and will also contribute to the global project. The site is located at the Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville, UT. The mission of the botanical center is: “To guide the conservation and wise use of plant, water, and energy resources through research-based educational experiences, demonstrations, and technologies.”
In early March the tulips inside the greenhouse started to peek out. In mid March, the tulips outside the greenhouse peeked out. The pictures for "Emerged" were taken on March 22, 2012.
This spring has been exceptionally warm and dry compared to last year and other years previous (so far). Our soils here are heavy clay.
