Robin (First SEEN)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/28/2012

Number: 1

This robin was calling as it flew overhead when I was getting my newspaper this morning. Day temps now in 40s and we had a stretch of sunny days which switched to clouds & rain in forecast today. Still 1.5' snow in parts of our yard but snowless downtown. We have quite the variety of microclimates here. Our house is influenced by the cold air that comes down the Mendenhall River (across the street) originating from the Mendenhall glacier & lake (which is still frozen, I skate skied on it after work yesterday.) Also over 14' snow at the top of the ski area!!!

I was pretty surprised to see the robin as I have not heard a varied thrush yet & they usually are heard in my neighborhood by mid-March.

Photo is back of our house early in March when we got ~ 15" of new snow.

See when this Northern Observation Post predicted first robin!
