Hummingbird, Other Species Sighted

Date: 03/19/2012

Number: 1

It was a fair day and I was standing by a young apple tree planted just a few years ago. There, on a small branch I saw a tiny, tiny hummingbird staring at me. It tilted its head, then flew up by my ear and zoomed back to the branch. I had never experienced an interaction with such a fearless little bird. This was my first sighting. Later that day I noticed our Bottle Brush trees were literally swarming with scores of Hummingbirds. Some were larger than others and they seemed to like the flowering part of the bottle-brush. I have never seen so many Hummingbirds in one place before. Later I read that the high winds have increased the migration. I have randomly viewed one or two in our yard through the years but never in such number like this. Our cat had to be discouraged from climbing up on the roof under the Bottle-Brush tree branches. I can't send a photo as my computer is down and I am using another. But it was a beautiful sight. Also, the feeding seemed to increase toward dusk which surprised me.
