A moderately faded Monarch was sighted in the backyard this afternoon (3/31/12). Yesterday (3/30/12) I was in Germantown, TN and saw a number of Monarchs flying northeast. About 3 to 4 per hour. It was a warm day with temps in the low 80's with W-SW winds from 10 to 15 mph.
I was surprised to see these many as well especially with the number that survived the winter returning from Mexico. Unfortunately, I did not take any photos. We had a strong cold front that moved through last Thursday and shifted winds to the north. I wonder if this could have slowed their movement and resulted in additional sightings?
