Tulips EMERGED
Sightings report image

Date: 04/02/2012

Number: 1

When we returned from our two week spring break, all but one of our tulips had emerged. They range in height from 3 cm to 12 cm. We saw redish, brownish dots on the leaves of our tulips. The temperature that day was around 64 degrees and it was warm and sunny. We also saw lots of spiky weeds growing in our garden, so we took them out because they would take away the water from our tulips. When we finished pulling the weeds out we had a big bucket of weeds which we composted. We also found worms, a night crawler and rolly pollies in the soil. The soil was pretty damp. We wondered if we needed to water our tulips, but whenever we check the soil it seems like it is wet and damp enough. Maybe it is because the snow melted. In fact, when we observed our tulips, we noticed drops of water trapped between some of the leaves. We noticed that animals were munching on some of the emerging tulips, so we put a fence around the garden to keep them OUT! We noticed that tulips from last year's garden had blossomed and some of them had animal bites as well. We really enjoyed observing our tulip garden.
